By the end of this course, you will be able to read the autonomic state of the people you work with and apply polyvagal-informed cues of safety to support a shift toward regulated, socially engaged states in nature-based sessions with your own clients or participants.
Outcomes
What you'll gain
- Read participants' autonomic state (Ventral Vagal, Sympathetic, and Dorsal Vagal) from face, voice, posture, and movement during a session, rather than from verbal report.
- Apply cues of safety through site selection, vocal prosody, pace, and your own regulated presence to support a shift toward ventral regulation.
- Design a 30-, 60-, or 90-minute state-informed nature-based session for your own clients, working from the FTHub Method and the Liquid Interactions Model (LIM, FTHub 2021).
- Adapt the practice across populations, environments (full nature, urban green environments, or indoor with nature elements), and group sizes using the course Adaptation Framework.
- Identify the scope boundary at which referral is the appropriate response, and communicate the evidence base to clients, referrers, and partner organizations using the course Evidence Summary Card.
Audience
Who is this course for?
-
Therapists: Add a polyvagal-informed nature-based protocol to your professional practice with the clients you already work with, with the autonomic reading skills and the scope language to keep nature sessions distinct from therapy.
-
Coaches: Bring evidence-grounded autonomic regulation skills into your one-to-one and group coaching outdoors with your own clients, with a complete session design and ready-to-use client briefings.
-
Healthcare workers: Offer structured nature-based regulation sessions to the people on your caseload, with a written scope and referral protocol and a one-page evidence card for referring colleagues.
-
Prerequisite: an established professional practice working directly with clients or participants in a nature-based, health, or wellbeing context.
