By the end of this course, you will be able to design and facilitate inclusive nature-based sessions in which physical, sensory, cognitive, communication, and economic access are built in from the start for groups with co-occurring access needs across clinical, educational, and outdoor practice settings.
Outcomes
What you'll gain
- Audit any environment you use for the access barriers a participant would meet across the four domains (physical, sensory, cognitive, communicational & economical), using the FTHub Access Audit Walk.
- Explain why a barrier is environmental rather than personal, drawing on the social model of disability, the biopsychosocial view, and FTHub's Liquid Interactions Model (FTHub, 2021).
- Design a complete, inclusive session bounded by the most restrictive access feature, applying Universal Design, multi-channel instruction (UDL), and sensory-load calibration.
- Adapt your session across populations, environments, and group sizes using the FTHub Adaptation Framework, with its absolute limits on when not to adapt.
- Communicate your access approach to participants, referrers, and commissioners using a needs-based briefing that invites disclosure without requiring a diagnosis.
Audience
Who is this course for?
-
Forest Therapy Practitioners and Forest Bathing Guides: Strengthen the access design of your existing group sessions so participants with disabilities and neurodiverse participants can complete the same session together, with no separate provision.
-
Health, clinical, and social prescribing practitioners: Add a needs-based briefing, an access-bound route, and an evidence-anchored case for inclusion to your nature-based work with referred clients.
-
Educators and youth practitioners: Apply Universal Design for Learning and sensory-load calibration to outdoor sessions for participants who require predictability, multiple channels of instruction, or built-in parallel options.
-
No prerequisites required, beyond active professional practice in nature-based work or a closely related field.
