By the end of this course, you will be able to explain what Forest Bathing is and design a safe, regular personal Forest Bathing practice for yourself across natural, urban, and home settings, grounded in the evidence for nature contact and the FTHub framework.
Outcomes
What you'll gain
- Explain what Forest Bathing is, how it differs from hiking, mindfulness, and meditation, and where it sits within the FTHub distinction between Shinrin-Yoku, Forest Bathing, and Forest Therapy.
- Describe the physical, psychological, and social benefits of nature contact and the mechanisms behind them, drawing on the Biophilia Hypothesis (Wilson, 1984), Stress Recovery Theory (Ulrich, 1991), and Attention Restoration Theory (Kaplan, 1995).
- Carry out core sensory practices, including sensory awareness, a regular sit spot, and a five-senses sequence, and use a nature journal to record and reflect on your experience.
- Design and sustain a personal Forest Bathing practice of 15 minutes to 3 hours, adapting it across home, urban, natural, and water environments and working through common obstacles.
- Locate Forest Bathing within planetary health and reciprocity, and identify FTHub network, research, and professional training pathways for continuing your development.
Audience
Who is this course for?
-
Practitioners new to nature connection: build a clear, evidence-grounded understanding of what Forest Bathing is, plus a personal practice you can draw on as you bring nature connection into your own work.
-
Educators and youth practitioners: gain the foundational concepts, sensory practices, and adaptation cues to begin offering simple, age-appropriate nature connection moments to the children and young people you work with.
-
Health and well-being professionals: understand the benefits and mechanisms of nature contact and how a regular personal practice supports the people you work with, as a foundation for further FTHub training.
