Forest Therapy Institute Lab
Where Evidence
Meets Practice
The Forest Therapy Institute Lab (FTI Lab) is the research and applied science division of Forest Therapy Hub. We generate the evidence that shapes how nature-based health is understood, taught, and practiced worldwide.
Since 2022, the FTI Lab has contributed to projects under Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, and Biodiversa+ partnerships, working with universities, research centers, public agencies, and communities across Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Our work spans fundamental research, applied project development, institutional consultancy, and science dissemination.

What the FTI Lab does
The FTI Lab operates at the intersection of science, policy, and practice. Our work falls into four areas:

Research & Evidence
Generation
We design and conduct applied research in Forest Bathing, Forest Therapy, nature-based interventions, nature-based social prescribing, and therapeutic landscape assessment. Our studies are published in peer-reviewed journals and translated into training materials, policy recommendations, and practical tools for the field.

EU Programs & International Projects
The FTI Lab has a proven track record in securing and delivering EU-funded projects. We write competitive proposals, build international consortia, and manage complex multi-partner projects from concept to completion. Our portfolio includes Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, and Biodiversa+ initiatives.

Institutional Consultancy
We advise public agencies, healthcare systems, municipalities, and educational institutions on nature-based health strategy, from therapeutic landscape design to nature prescribing implementation and capacity building. Our consultancy is grounded in our own research, not generic advisory frameworks.

Science Dissemination & Communication
Research without reach is research without impact. The FTI Lab manages dissemination strategies that make scientific findings accessible to practitioners, policymakers, and the public. Our multilingual channels reach over 60,000 people across 7 languages, giving our partners immediate access to an engaged, international audience.

THE FTHub ECOSYSTEM
How the FTI Lab connects to the FTHub ecosystem
Research flows into education, network, and practice.
Research findings are translated directly into FTHub’s training curriculum and FTHub Academy courses. New evidence continuously improves what we teach. Capacity building contracts won by the FTI Lab often use FTHub’s existing education infrastructure for delivery.
Hub Seedlings Pro members have priority consideration to apply for FTI Lab research projects and fieldwork. They receive quarterly research briefings and early access to published findings. The Hub Seedlings Global Network community is also the primary dissemination channel for FTI Lab outputs, reaching practitioners, guides, and health professionals across the network.
Every FTHub-certified guide in the field is a potential research node. Practitioners contribute field data, case observations, and practice insights that feed FTI Lab’s participatory research model.
