NATURELAB’s Core Phase Moves into Full Methodological Implementation

Since the very beginning, we’ve shared NATURELAB with you: its scale, its specificity, the steady, rigorous work carried forward by committed partners who give the project its depth and direction. After months of methodological design, NATURELAB has crossed a decisive threshold to the active application across pilot territories of facilitator training and capacity building. The trainings held last and this week in Esposende and Sintra (Portugal) marked the final start of the capacity-building phase, preparing professionals to implement nature-based interventions across diverse territories.

Forest Therapy Hub team has led the conceptual architecture to create interventions that are standardised yet adaptable, rigorous yet sensitive to context (within Work Package 2- Design and Implementation of Nature-Based Therapies).

The FTHub 5 Components of Nature-based Interventions, initially developed for Forest Bathing and Forest Therapy and now extended to Therapeutic Horticulture, serves as the backbone for shared frameworks, and clear criteria for replicability without losing therapeutic and environmental impact.

This first Portuguese round launches a broader international training that will soon continue in Peru, bringing together participants from Germany, Netherlands, Greece and Portugal. Nearly 100 facilitators are being prepared in this initial stage, with projections exceeding 600 professionals in the coming months, a scale that reflects both the scope and the structural demands of the project.

The next step moves deeper into complexity: accompanying 15 pilot implementations, supporting facilitators on the ground, and ensuring both contextual adaptation and methodological fidelity to the NATURELAB Approach at every stage.
